The Starting Point
Data
Starting as a Java J2EE developer I understood data
differently. It was like a quintessential part of the program or module that
was being developed for a certain purpose or aim. As I upgraded myself, I started
feeling that the Data Stream had a very profound and unique characteristic. A
nature that was quirky and unexplained if not seen as a whole or part of a
whole. We only saw some parts of the incumbent data, so we were in the dark
about the nature of it.
Once I started working as an Identity and Access Management
Consultant and SME, I found out that to trace the nature of the Data one has to
check many pointers:
1. Origin
2. Transmission
3. Transformation
4. Receiving
platform
5. Storing
These were generally the major pointers while dealing
with Data flow. During my MBA I took a specialization in Business Analytics.
This turned my angle and my perception of Data changed completely. It’s that
sometimes you have to levitate above to see the whole picture and the relevancy
of one part of the whole.
If the above story feels relevant, Welcome. I am
Sohomjit, an IT professional with 8 years of experience, working as a Data
Engineer who loves to dabble in Data Science topics. Love AI and Machine Learning,
feel fascinated. Magic!
I took up to writing as I know that there are many like me who are unsure of venturing into the Data Science space. I will be regularly
uploading new blogs on different topics which I feel interesting enough to discuss.
Don’t feel out of place here, please. Make use of Google as your weapon, so
that you may learn the new tricks of this wonderful trade. There are also lot
of good MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and open learning platforms like edX,
Udemy etc. to name a few. There are also online classes which are beneficial.
This was useful for me as I am a bit lazy (OK maybe an understatement). Will
write a separate post on the useful courses and materials.
So, in a nutshell if I can transition from a core
Developer to a Business Analyst to a Data Engineer, you can too. Maybe you are from a different profession and you love Data Science, are fascinated by it but are afraid to make the jump.
Don't worry ! Seriously !
You just need the motivation, perseverance and aim. I am on my journey to become a Data Scientist and I want you to be a part of that too. Will describe my success, my failures, my learning and the wisdom gained. Maybe it will help someone in their journey too.
Keep an eye out in this space for more posts. (Psst ! Bookmark me ).Don't worry ! Seriously !
